A fun, fairly quick drawing of Kritchpaw and Chester, two of my KriMauTai characters. These gals look like they're ready to cause trouble! Kritchpaw excels at hand-to-hand combat; Chester's specialty is subterfuge.

Book cover: The House of Lazarus, Part 1

I am lucky enough to be working on a second book cover for my good friend, author T.L. Bodine! You may remember the cover I did for her short story anthology, The Beast in the Bedchamber, back in 2013.

Her upcoming novel allowed me to work with a new subject: zombies! The sketchbook pages here are an exploration of figure and textures. I'm going to make some digital mockups to show Tiana before I begin the final illustration.

I have a second book cover in the works for another good friend, author and artist Robert A. Sloan. I am illustrating the cover for his novel Elder's Pride, a Raptor Red homage following a family of Smilodon fatalis as they navigate the Californian Pleistocene in search of home territory. Although I took the cover on two years ago, Robert and I have both had setbacks in getting it ready. But I have several study pages to share, and you'll see them soon!

Fan Art: Jasper (Steven Universe) [SPOILERS]

I'm a huge nerd for Steven Universe right now. What used to seem like an unassuming, simple little cartoon quickly proved itself to be one of the most engaging shows I've ever watched. While I usually shy away from fan art, I had to draw Jasper after her corruption in "Earthlings." Gotta love broken characters and body horror!

I wanted to practice my cleanup drawing skills. Although I haven't animated anything for five years, I still love the feeling of taking a rough sketch to clean line art. I wanted to make it look like an animation frame.

The Missing INKvember Scans (aka Hello, 2016!)

Some of you may remember that INKvember was a thing I wanted to do.

...Yeah. Sometimes plans don't pan out.

My goal was to create a handful of polished drawings. "Gravity's Angel" was the one full illustration I made. But I did complete several sketches and rough paintings I liked; hope you enjoy them.

Day 14 marked the departure from my uber-combination challenge and the return to my story-based drawings. I was getting stuck with my Drawlloween / 30 Day Monster Girl / Goretober prompts; this was a welcome change.

I'm not going to abandon the combo challenge entirely. I want to create ink drawings throughout the remainder of the year. INKtober shouldn't be the sole time I use ink!

Threats Unseen is a quick, rough drawing - and I was so happy to make it after overthinking most of my previous drawings for the month. Its sketchbook concept is one of my favorites.

Drawlloween: werewolf

30 Day Monster Girl Challenge: mermaid

Goretober: amputation

This is the quickest piece I've done so far - and it's the one that makes me smile most. I considered drawing a werewolf duking it out with a mermaid, or a werewolf-mermaid. Then I thought: what if the werewolf brought a trophy back to his mermaid friend to impress her?

These two may become characters. Fair warning. They at least deserve a colored illustration!
