Inktober 2017, Day 1! (plus BONUS)

Inktober 2017, Day 1: DECAY
9x12 brush pen in my sketchbook

Ahklut bonus sketch!

Blogger isn't what it used to be, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't continue to update it! So, better late than never, here is Inktober, Day 1. I began with my poster girl for all things grim and gory, Decay. Added a bonus Ahklut for Thornwolf's creature challenge!

Decay didn't scan well; I drew her too close to the sketchbook seam. I used to add margins to my sketchbooks to prevent this from happening, ha!

30 Day (Personal) Monster Girl Challenge (December 2016)

Tiny announcement drawing of my Paradigm Chimera harpy, now named Grizelle.

I love working from printed reference.

I never finished outlining Grizelle's face - oops!

Older sketchbook work and Skully used as reference for Tourniquet.

2006 illustration (framed) and older sketches as reference.

Partial reference for my Moraunx warrior, Plybestra.

I used my Schleich Therizinosaurus toy to help me draw Atriaph's face.

Hurray for different body types! Shika Noriah (left) and Cobra Venom (right) are a couple.

Gavabu (left) and Gesarke (right) are rivals of sorts.

Nique (left) and her daughter Ceruliko (right) have been with me since the early 2000s.

First piece of fan art for the challenge: Demona from Gargoyles

More fan art: Lying Cat from Saga.

Hello, 2017. It's about time I started blogging again!

Starting off with some backlogged 30 Day (Personal) Monster Girl Challenge posts. I shared most of them to my Instagram, but I've included some extra progress shots. I certainly kept myself busy during December! I began at home and finished while visiting my family in California.

This was the perfect opportunity to explore my characters' appearances and stories, and to include some fun creature studies and fan art.

INKvember 2016, #3: Imprisonment

INKvember 2016, #3: BRAINSICK : Imprisonment

Trussed in ropes that span the night
and threads that cover day,
We each hang victim to delight
in seeing others fray.

Initial rough sketch of Paranoid; adjusted proportions.

Decay's markings penciled in.

Marking's filled with tightly-spaced scribbles.

Drawing board setup!

Nothing triggers my astigmatism like inking fine lines...

Working at my aunt and uncle's Rockaway Beach home.

At 22.5" high and 15" wide, this is my largest ink drawing to date!

Goofy self-portrait for reference.

I wasn't happy with how I'd inked Lily's face; I removed the line with an X-Acto knife and redrew it.

First-pass outlines on Paranoid.

I worked at the kitchen table for a few hours. Good to change it up sometimes!

Diluted FW Acrylic ink.
First-pass ink wash on Lily.

Tying the comp together... almost literally.

Lily's markings brushed in with diluted acrylic.

Due to its size, I can't scan this from home. I made nineteen scans earlier this week and they still won't piece together properly in Photoshop. If I want to scan this, I'm going to have to take it in!
