Inktober 2017, Day 5!

Inktober 2017, Day 5: Baku
8.5x11 brush pen in sketchbook

Inspired by Thornwolf's Inktober challenge! The Baku is a dream eater from Chinese and Japanese mythology. Inked in my sketchbook while hanging at Books With Pictures for Comics Night!

Inktober 2017, Day 1! (plus BONUS)

Inktober 2017, Day 1: DECAY
9x12 brush pen in my sketchbook

Ahklut bonus sketch!

Blogger isn't what it used to be, but that doesn't mean I shouldn't continue to update it! So, better late than never, here is Inktober, Day 1. I began with my poster girl for all things grim and gory, Decay. Added a bonus Ahklut for Thornwolf's creature challenge!

Decay didn't scan well; I drew her too close to the sketchbook seam. I used to add margins to my sketchbooks to prevent this from happening, ha!

INKvember 2016, #1!

INKvember #1: Epic Mount
9x12 Derwent Inkstense and watercolor pencil on Strathmore 400 Series Mixed Media paper

"Placemat" doodle on a sheet of bristol I taped to my desk.
Sketched in Staedtler Ergosoft watercolor pencil and Mars Lumograph HB pencil.
Outlining and filling with Derwent Inktense.
DONE! I colored my caricature with Prismacolor markers; outlined with Pentel Color Brush.
Obligatory skewed angle shot.

November 1st was National Self-Portrait Day and the first day of Draw Dinovember. I combined the two for silly wish-fulfillment. How awesome would it be to have a pet hummingbird raptor? :D

I was going to devote November to Draw Dinovember entirely, but it's better for me to focus on my own characters. I can spend more time developing my other stories!

INKtober 2016, Day 31!

INKtober 2016, Day 31: Grumpy Unicorn
5x7 brush pen on Utrecht American Master's Multicolor printmaking paper

Last Inktober drawing: a grumpy unicorn. Always feels nice to finish a drawing challenge with something silly! Inked using a Staedtler Mars Graphic 3000 duo brush pen.

INKtober 2016, Day 22!

...so says the demon puppy.

BaBEE Sitter babysits bees!

Blep-O-Tron is fast and likes to blep.
Day 22 meant another drawing shindig with friends! I made these three silly drawings while visiting and eating too much bad (delicious) food. I like letting my goofiness reign supreme sometimes.

INKtober 2016, Day 19!

INKtober 2016, Day 19: Discord
9x12 brush pen on Stonehenge paper

I'd wanted to draw Discord for ages. His character design is so much fun! It's a shame I wimped out on adding his hind legs; like his arms, they're mismatched. I'll have to give him another try! :D

INKtober 2015, Day 28, Drawing 1!

INKtober 2015, Day 28 (1): Lily in Marker and Brush Pen

5x8 Prismacolor marker and Pentel Color Brush on watercolor paper

A simple sketch of Lily. Too similar to one of last year's drawings, but I still like how it turned out.

INKtober 2015, Day 13!

INKtober 2015, Day 13: Bug Gams
7x11 brush pen on marker paper

Yup, my mind sank into the deep end of weirdness on this one. Woo!

INKtober 2015, Day 6!

INKtober 2015, Day 6: No Dinner Reservations

7x11 brush pen on marker paper

Drawlloween: pumpkin (oops!)
30 Day Monster Girl Challenge: spider
Goretober: cannibalism

Time for straight up gore! I decided to drop the pumpkin from the composition. I was going to have my spider gal sitting on it, but I liked the cropped comp better.

The finished drawing is pure brush pen with some Prismacolor marker.

Sketchbook_Brain Drain 17.5 Pages 1 - 11!

I haven't shared any sketchbook pages for a while, so here's a sampling from Brain Drain 17.5.

Why 17.5? I haven't finished BD17, but I really wanted to break in my new Strathmore 500 Series Mixed Media sketchbook. It's lovely!

Playing with shapes and stylization.

Cover concept. Covers are HARD.
Might work better as a chapter title page.

Remind me to smile
You know the old friends line
It gets so I feel like
I'm in this cold glass cage
The first version of the sketch above can be found here: Sketchbook_Brain Drain 16 Pages 27 - 36!

Another revamped sketch, initially found here: Sketchbook_Brain Drain 16 Pages 13 - 26!

Jillian, go take some figure drawing classes again.

Based off an earlier sketch using Willy Pogany's
Art of Drawing as reference.
Brush and ink.

Facing pages! This paper is sturdy and handles wet media on both sides
of a single page very well.
Gosh dang awkward arm / hand positioning.

Concept for a full revamp of ABAN-BUIL ANATHEMA.

I'll continue to update with more sketchbook pages. I often like my sketches more than my finished work, and I enjoy sharing my though process.

INKtober 2014, Day 25!

Day 25: Gesarkhe

9x12 brush and ink on bristol paper

I created Gesarkhe four years ago. She is Ersphe's shepherding assistant.

Gesarkhe can assume different forms to suit her needs. Her design is a cross between a barn owl and a snow leopard, abstracted into something ethereal.

Brush pen sketches showing possible markings.
Marker sketch I chose to adapt.

INKtober 2014, Day 22!

Day 22: Coffee Bliss

6x8 brush pen on Strathmore Mixed Media paper

Today was crappy for various reasons. I enjoyed a mug of coffee after work and it helped me relax. Maybe this little barn owl is enjoying her coffee for the same reason.

Rough sketch on left; original idea on right.
