Sketchbook_NS 4 Pages 1 - 3: horses!
Five pages drawn Sunday, March 11. Although I labeled them 1 - 3, I draw on both sides of the page in my study sketchbooks.
I really missed updating my blog. Recent work will eventually make it to my website, which is going to update as soon as possible.

Oaxacan Tree Frog, Stage 3 DONE!
^ I prepare to color the left hind leg.
^ I start off by outlining parts of the calf and foot with Verithins.
^ I use the Peacock Blue Verithin to add some complementary
shading to the far toes. The blue pinky toe was primed with the
Tuscan Red Verithin.
^ Foot finished!
^ Calf completed with Dioxazine Purple Hue, Violet,
and Parma Violet. Metatarsals are Peacock Blue.
^ Outlined with Peacock Blue, Peacock Green,
and Orange Verithins. A bit of priming done with Peacock Blue.
^ Chartreuse and Apple Green added.
^ The Frog itself is complete! Now for the vines and leaves.
^ I cover as much of the Frog as possible prior
to starting the vines.
^ Vines primed with Tuscan Red Verithin.
^ Closeup of the crossed vine ends.
^ More priming layers added with Peacock Green and
Apple Green Verithins.
^ The right-hand vine is well on its way to done!
^ Impromptu first aid: masking tape and Band-Aids for
a tender thumb and callus. I later ditched the masking tape
and kept a Band-Aid only on the callus.
^ More priming on the left-hand vine.
^ Spiral pattern impressed onto each leaf.
^ Leaf stems quickly colored.
^ Leaves primed with Peacock Green.
^ Spiral patterns colored with Pomegranate.
^ Closeup showing colored spiral pattern.
^ I color the middle part of each leaf with Dioxazine Purple Hue.
I used up about one third of this pencil for the project. A new favorite!
^ Showing the difference between painted (above toes)
and primed (below toes).
^ The Oaxacan Tree Frog is DONE!
Colors corrected in Photoshop.
This final haul was slightly longer than last night's. Total time spent on the Oaxacan Tree Frog was about 10.6 hours.
Thank you for following its progress!

Oaxacan Tree Frog, Stage 1!
^ Final line art, inked with black and green ballpoints.
^ Completed eye. I used two of Prismacolor's new colors,
Dioxazine Purple Hue and Pomegrante. LOVE them!
I threw in Orange and Dahlia Purple for blending and
finished the pupil with Black.
^ Pulling back to show the eye and newly
inked markings.
^ I prepare to color the markings with my
usual Post-It Note takeover.
^ Back markings begun with Dioxazine Purple Hue,
Violet, and Parma Violet.
^ Belly colored with Chartreuse, Apple Green, and Peacock Green.
I used Peacock Blue to blend Peacock Green with Dioxazine Purple Hue.
Bright markings painted with Pomegranate, Orange, Yellowed Orange, and Spanish Orange.
^ Belly markings continued onto foreleg.
^ I use another one of Prismacolor's new colors,
Cerulean Blue, to continue priming and painting the back.
^ Back markings completed with True Blue, Non-Photo Blue,
and Deco Blue.
^ Foreleg almost finished.
^ The Oaxacan Tree Frog thus far. Too bad its eye is
still covered!
I'm going to continue working on the Tree Frog today. Check back for another update later tonight!
Up to this point, I've listened to VNV Nation, Propaganda, and Peter Murphy while painting the Tree Frog.

Visual Journal: Splash page and first page!
The splash page and first page of my Strathmore Visual Journal. I'll use it for art therapy on occasion.
The splash page, bottom left, was roughly half-finished before the power went out; I completed it by candlelight and flashlight.
Lily is featured on the first page. I used to make abstract marker illustrations like this frequently in high school, especially for Brainsick.
