RoAnna's graduation gift!

My friend RoAnna graduated recently! I wanted to post these drawings sooner, but I figured it might be better to wrap up the 30 Day Art Challenge first. Ro loves bunnies and Gargoyles, so I wanted to combine the two into something fun: a gargoyle bunny and its bunny gargoyle companion.

It was a good opportunity to practice my cleanup skills. I'm pretty rusty, but I'm happy with how this turned out.

Quick concepts in putting gargoyle features on a rabbit and rabbit features on a gargoyle.

Construction drawing used as the basis for the final at top.
A BIG congratulations to you again, Ro! :D

Oaxacan Fox and Oaxacan Hummingbird Hound lineart!

Happy New Year, everyone!

My inspiration changed and I switched to working on a Oaxacan Fox and Oaxacan Hummingbird Hound (the latter is for my website redesign). The Oaxacan Leap Frogs will come at a later time.

Both are drawn on 9" x 12" vellum bristol and inked lightly with ballpoint pen.

Oaxacan Octopus lineart!

Finished lineart for the Oaxacan Octopus. Sketched with graphite pencil, outlined with True Blue Prismacolor Verithin. Outlining took about 48 minutes. I got heavy-handed in areas, but the coloring should improve appearances in that respect.

Oaxacan Horse sketches and lineart!

^ Thumbnail and color concepts done with ballpoint pen and Blick Studio colored pencils. They're comparable to Prismacolor and are quite a bit cheaper.

^ Face concept, again with ballpoint and Blick Studio pencils.

^ Ballpoint sketch with patterns I may incorporate on the final piece.

^ Eye study with Prismacolor colored pencils.

^ Ear study with Prismacolors. Lines impressed with a stylus.

^ Rough ballpoint sketch drawn on the back of the final board, facing backwards.

^ Final lineart, sketched and cleaned up. I wanted a more stylized look for the Horse like I used for the Big Cat; the Hummingbird and Bearded Dragon got too realistic.

The Oaxacan Horse is based off of the Clydesdale, one of my favorite horse breeds. I adore draft horses.

Oaxacan Bearded Dragon: lineart!

^ Finished lineart for the Oaxacan Bearded Dragon, done with the 00 (.30) Rapidograph technical pen. I fixed the Dragon's facial proportions in pencil first.

Colors coming very soon! I'm going to finish as much of it as I can tonight and complete the illustration by Sunday. Next week, I'm going to get prints of my work make for my RAW showcase.

Oaxacan Hummingbird: finished lineart!

^ Finished lineart, using Col-Erase and Prismacolor Verithins (Crimson Red and Peacock Green) for the flowers, and Rapidograph technical pen sizes 3x0 (.25) and 00 (.30) for the Hummingbird.

At estimate, the lineart took about two hours to complete. Good practice, because it's been a while since I've done any cleanup work.
